Bear is a beautiful young Shepherd around 4 years of age who has spent most of his life as a backyard dog. Bear was surrendered to the shelter after injuring a cat that came into his yard and he is now searching for a home that understands the German Shepherd breed.

Bear is a social, sweet, and outgoing young guy. He loves to play with toys and is fast friends with anyone who will provide toys for him to obsess over - he doesn't always return them though so keeping two or three on hand is a must. Bear enjoys meeting new people and has a very outgoing personality that is starting to shine through. He wasn't as sure of himself when he first arrived - likely from years confined to a backyard - but he is starting to trust quicker and really warming up to social settings. Bear is a very driven and active young guy who requires lots of exercise both physically and mentally. He will need some extra guidance on the manners department as he can be a bit of a bull in a china shop when he gets excited but he is a smart, eager to please, boy. Bear has been around children over 8 years of age who are very dog savvy - i.e. don't try to play fetch with the large, untrained, Shepherd - with no issues. He has a sweet personality overall however given his size, drive, and lack of manners he would not be an ideal match for a home with young children.

Bear does wonderful with other Shepherds and Shepherd mixes in his foster home and play groups. He has a good handle on navigating other dogs and seems to have a middle line personality - not dominate but not a pushover either. He is more interested in toys than he is playing with the other dogs but that may shift in time. Bear can be pushy when meeting new dogs as he wants to be the center of attention for the people around. Given clear boundaries he can adjust but without those boundaries he would likely become a total bully. Bear is NOT cat friendly and is NOT small dog friendly.

Bear is searching for an active home that will provide him with the guidance, exercise, and love that a young Shepherd requires. If you're the home for Bear email Tierhavenrescue@gmail.com for an adoption application or visit tierhaven.rescuegroups.org to view our adoption process and fee.
