Beauty is a unique young black Shepherd likely no older than a year of age. Beauty came from a rural Kentucky shelter that did not offer any explanation of how she ended up at their shelter so we unfortunately know nothing about her history or how she came to be in need of a new home. She is a fun girl though and is happily looking for a family of her own.

Beauty is best described as athletic, energetic, and spunky. She can be weary when meeting new people and holds back until she deems them safe. Going for a walk and offering treats helps her loosen up and once she has settled Beauty is a loving and playful girl. She has a very gamey personality and is the sort that would excel in dog sports as she is eager to please and always looking for the next adventure. Beauty will need more structured socialization around new places and people to help her overcome her fearfulness but she is doing her best and making progress. The only children Beauty has met have been 6 and 8 years of age and she took up with them quicker than she does most adults. She was happy to play fetch with the kids - she is a bit unsure about the bringing it back part - and go on walks. Beauty would do best with children over 6 who are considerate of her space and boundaries. Once Beauty has decided you are part of the pack you are accepted for life and she has quickly taken up with volunteers she has only met once or twice. She is a typical Shepherd personality of bonding quickly and closely with whoever is ‘her people’.

Beauty is fostered with other German Shepherds and has quickly learned how to navigate new dogs and play groups. She can be very vocal when meeting new dogs, especially in public, but also tries to hide behind her handler while fussing. She doesn't have great confidence with new dogs but does know how to navigate them well, who to play with, and who to avoid. Beauty loves playing with the other young dogs in her foster home and has done well on visits to other foster homes for play groups. She is playing socialization catch up though and it is going to be vital that she continue to receive structured socialization in her new home. Beauty has been around dogs as small as 30 lbs and done well but has not had a chance to meet any truly small dogs. She has had an initial cat test and did okay - she was interested and curious but friendly. Given guidance she could likely adjust to living with a cat.

Beauty is a loyal and fun girl that is searching for a home that will return that loyalty and sense of adventure as she figures out life as a family member. If you’re the home for her email Tierhavenrescue@gmail.com for an adoption application or visit Tierhaven.rescuegroups.org for FAQs
