About Rachel

  • Status: Adopted!
  • Species: Dog
  • Reaction to New People: Friendly

Rachel is a stunning young female German Shepherd estimated just over 1 year of age. Rachel was originally picked up as a stray and we unfortunately do not know her background. Rachel has been 'known' by us for a bit though as she has been adopted and returned twice - once for being too rambunctious with a 4 year old child and most recently do to a new child moving into the household and having allergies. Rachel hasn't had much luck with finding her forever home but she doesn't hold that against humans and is still loves to make new friends.

Rachel is a very energetic, bouncy, and friendly young girl. Rachel loves to make new friends and can be overly excited during introductions most of the time. Rachel has little concept of personal boundaries and is pretty sure everyone wants to give her their undivided attention and all the pets.  Rachel has been a wonderful house companion in her foster homes and in her two placements. She is still very puppy in energy so she does get crated when unsupervised but does great in her crate and loves to hang out loose when people are home. Rachel is a loyal and eager to please girl who ultimately just wants to be around her people and is up for any adventure. Rachel would make an awesome running partner, hiking companion, travel buddy, or prospect for advanced obedience and dog sports. Rachel will require a strong commitment to exercise, structured socialization, and positive training to keep her on track as the awesome dog she is. Rachel has now lived with children as young as 15 months and to our knowledge done well; however, due to her energy level we do not personally recommend Rachel for a home with children under 6 years of age. Rachel would do best in a home with children 6 years and up who are experienced with large, rambunctious dogs.

Rachel has lived with a variety of other dogs from 20 lbs puppies to 80 lb Shepherds and views everyone as a playmate. Rachel originally didn't have much in the way of dog social manners but over the last few months has really figured out how to navigate different personalities and playgroups. Rachel enjoys chase games as well as romping in the yard - or living room if you'll let her - with her foster siblings. Rachel does well meeting new dogs in her foster home but can be vocal in public at times. Rachel is NOT cat friendly and is not recommended for a home with small dogs.

Rachel is a fun, active, and adventurous young Shepherd who is searching for a home that will patiently guide her through the woos of being a young Shepherd and give her the love that every dog deserves.
