About Lady Bug

  • Status: Adopted!
  • Species: Dog
  • General Color: Black
Lady Bug is a striking young girl around a year of age (estimated DOB 9/2018) whose mother is a German Shepherd and father unknown. Lady was born in a rural part of Kentucky to a pack of feral dogs which is where she spent the first part of her life. Lady was befriended by a shelter volunteer and eventually trapped. Despite her early days roaming Lady is eager to get to know people and overcome her socialization set-backs. Lady Bug, once she warms up to someone, is a very playful, jumpy, and mouthy young girl. She has a number of cattle dog traits such as wanting to nibble playfully when she gets romping and herding the people or dogs in the yard. Lady loves to go on hikes, walks, and adventures of any sort but also values a good cuddle session during rainy days. She is a high energy girl though so rain or shine she will need a good bit of physical exercise. Lady Bug is still nervous in new situations or meeting new people and isn't wholly confident on leash skills yet. She will need structured ongoing socialization to help her gain confidence in the larger world. Lady Bug has been around children over 6 years old who are dog savvy and done well. She is ultimately a herding dog though and doesn't yet understand not to nip ankles therefore she would require very dog savvy children and parents in order to be successful in a home with children. Lady Bug does great in her crate and must be crated when unsupervised in the house as she has developed a taste for shoes. Lady Bug has always been around other dogs and loves to romp, run, tumble, chew, and roughhouse. She is a big fan of chase games and her foster siblings happily oblige her. She can be timid when first meeting new dogs but comes out of her shell quickly once they get to start playing. Lady is the smallest in her foster home and hasn't been around any dogs smaller than her. She is living with a cat that she is just starting to notice and is adjusting to. Lady does want to herd the cat when it is on the ground but ultimately respects the cats space when it tells her to back off. She may need ongoing work in a home with cats, especially multiple cats or active cats, but should do just fine adjusting to new cats. Lady Bug is searching for a home with the patience to continue her socialization, the energy to keep up with her, and the love that every dog deserves.
