Duke is a beautiful black and tan German Shepherd with a classic coloring and confirmation that speaks to american bloodlines. Duke is estimated around 15 months of age. Duke came to us from a rural area of Kentucky where he had been living on a farm but was surrendered to the shelter for chasing livestock. Duke doesn't have much herding sense and is certainly not the best farm dog but he has lots of love to give.
Duke is the definition of a big baby - he enjoys cuddles, butt scratches, and always being nearby for lovings. Duke is an enthusiastic boy who doesn't have a good concept of personal space therefore he is thrilled to be the over-sized lap dog you didn't know you needed. Duke does well when introduced to new people in public and introduced properly to visitors. He has been around children 7 and up without any issues but given his size and energy level we would not recommend him for a home with children under 6 or children that are not accustomed to large dogs.
Duke does well with the other dogs in his foster home and navigates play groups well. He is a sensitive soul and gets his feelings hurt pretty easily which is in contrast of his lack of manners when meeting new dogs. He can be a typical pushy young dog when meeting new dogs and gets his feelings hurt when the other dog tells him to knock it off. He is learning with every interaction though and getting a good handle on social behavior. Duke has not been around any dogs under 40 lbs nor has he been tested with cats.
Duke is searching for an active and loving home that will feed his sense of adventure while also providing guidance and training to ensure he keeps his best paw forward.
