Delphi is a beautiful girl believed to be a Belgian Malinois German Shepherd mix and estimated at 2 years of age. Delphi was a stray so we do not know her history however she arrived at the shelter extremely underweight with fly bitten ears and a bald neck. Delphi has a class Malinois personality of constantly being on the go and always wanting a toy in her mouth. She has settled into her foster home well and been extremely friendly with everyone she has met. She enjoys attention and is always seeking it out from whoever is nearest. Delphi has met children over 7 well but can be very intense dog therefore she is not recommended for a home with younger children or kids who are not used to active dogs. Delphi loves playing and is always looking for a toy. She will settle for the nearest item she can get her mouth on - backpacks, shoes, jackets, etc - although she doesn't chew her dog bed in her crate everything else is fair game. She is clean and quiet in her crate but doesn't seem to have much experience loose in a house setting and is eager to explore counter tops and other exciting spaces. Delphi has done well with the other dogs in her foster home but doesn't have a handle on how to play yet. She amps up quickly and wants to circle and chase while the other dogs are playing. She is easily redirected to an appropriate toy so as to avoid conflict. She has been around dogs as small as 20 lbs with no concerns and is mostly around other Shepherds and shepherd mixes. Delphi does understand how to set her own boundaries with pushy dogs and has been appropriate in doing so when she wants left alone. Although Delphi isn't overly interested in the other dogs right now she does well in multi dog settings. Delphi is currently in a foster home with a cat with extreme supervision and caution. She initially didn't care about the cat but as she has settled in and become more energetic she has wanted to chase the cat. While she hasn't offered to hurt the cat Delphi would do best in a home without a cat or with an experienced handler that can provide solid boundaries to ensure safety of the cat while training Delphi. Delphi has an energetic personality that grows with each day of quality care and is going to make an amazing working companion. Delphi is not a couch potato, maybe we will go for a walk today, type of dog and is going to need an active home that can meet the needs of a young Malinois. While Delphi is not a candidate for protection work she would excel in agility, advanced obedience, and other dog sports. She is searching for an active family that will provide her the TLC she needs to continue her health recovery as well as the physical and mental stimulation a young Mal needs to keep their wits about them.
