Axel is a 2 year old German Shepherd who isn't sure what his role is in a family. Axel was purchased as a puppy by a family with multiple children because they wanted their kids to grow up with a dog however they did not have Axel neutered, nor provide training, and Axel began growling at people. Axel has had a full turn around since being neutered and become quite the big teddy bear.
Axel has now met many volunteers and although sometimes reserved he is overall well behaved. He isn't always sure how to navigate new social situations however he wants to please and is trying to learn. He has become very cuddly with his foster family and is progressing wonderfully. He will need a home dedicated to continuing his structured socialization and ensuring he has positive interactions.
Axel has been around other Shepherds and always does well. He follows social cues easily and is a friendly boy overall. He has been introduced to a beagle who is around 20 lbs with no issue. He barely gave her a glance and doesn't seem to have much of a prey drive. He gave the same treatment to the cat who was having her own fun weaving between his legs. While we always advocate for appropriate introductions, transitions, and boundary setting it seems Axel would be well suited to a home with cats and/or small dogs.
Axel is searching for a home that can provide him clear guidance as he continues to learn how to navigate what behavior is acceptable and what is not. While Axel will need more guidance to ensure his success he has lots of love to give and will no doubt make it worth the work.
