About Jack Skeelington

  • Status: Adopted!
  • Species: Dog
  • General Color: Black
Jack Skeelington is a handsome large Shepherd around 3 years of age. Jack was originally a stray in Lexington who then spent about 2 months in the Humane Society before finding a home. Jack was then returned and placed on quarantine for "biting a visitor to the house". We unfortunately have no details on the bite but let us tell you about this dog. We showed up at the shelter to evaluate Jack among some other shelters without knowing he was scheduled to be euthanized at closing that day. We feel strongly that this dog has something more for him in life and we hope to help him get there. Jack has been amazingly well behaved with everyone he meets. He is friendly and social but not overwhelming. He doesn't jump on new people but seeks attention and is affectionate. Jack walks well on a leash and will not pull. He knows his basic obedience commands and is very well mannered. Jack has been introduced to numerous strangers through the shelter and our foster homes without a single lifted lip or even a bark. He can be energetic and rambunctious but is also well mannered at all times. Jack can be a bit more prickly with other dogs. He definitely leans towards the dominate end of personality spectrum and is a bit of a social idiot. He doesn't really know how to interact so it is all inappropriate but with less tolerant dogs it can escalate. He would do well with a more settled companion who is tolerant enough to teach him. Jack does have a high drive though and is NOT CAT FRIENDLY. He would not do well with small dogs, cats, or other small critters. We don't know what lot this sweet boy has been handed in life but we do know that he has been one of the most kind, well mannered, and overall amazing dogs we have handled. He is going to need an owner who understands the need to properly introduce all visitors - a common necessity with a German Shepherd - and will provide Jack with appropriate energy outlets.
