Rex II is a handsome young Shepherd around a year and a half of age. Rex was surrendered to the Louisville Metro Shelter with very little information. We know through the power of social media that Rex was kept as a backyard dog and when a storm blew the fence over the family simply surrendered him to the shelter. The individual who posted his story on social media said Rex had been wandering the neighborhood but was well liked as a very friendly boy. They also said the family had multiple children which he few up with although he wasn't kept as part of the family.
Rex is first and foremost a very oversized puppy. He is goofy and bouncy and energetic and all over puppy. He can be a very large handful and will definitely need persistent basic obedience. On the up side of that he is a very friendly dog and social with everyone he meets. Rex has been around children and is friendly however his jumping would likely be too much for small children.
Rex is a total goober in the play yard and still trying to figure out if he is dominant or submissive. His biggest problem on this front is that he will get very mouthy with the other dogs but if challenged he doesn't know how to back himself up. He needs a patient play group that is able to teach him the social skills he clearly lacks. He has not exhibited any aggression just a lack of social manners.
Rex is a fun and loving boy who is going to make an awesome companion already but an even better companion with a little bit of training. It is obvious he was kept isolated through some crucial social development stages and has to play catch up. If you are looking for an energetic and handsome boy to spend time with he is waiting!
