Rex is a wonderful Shepherd who has been dealt a very rough hand in life. Estimated at 8 years of age Rex was surrendered to the shelter by someone who claimed they had found Rex as a stray but since Rex wasn't gaining weight they didn't want to keep him. Rex had a severe flea infection, resulting hair loss, emaciated, and was diagnosed with heartworms... All in all Rex as been severely neglected. Rex doesn't let his past keep him from being a very outgoing dog. He can occasionally be timid if scared but is generally a very friendly and warm dog. Rex has a dominant personality and is really quite amusing in his self-confidence. Although you wouldn't expect such a severely neglected dog to have bounds of energy Rex is determined to prove that wrong with his bouncy antics on a daily basis. Although he can be a whirlwind at first Rex does have some basic manners in regards to sitting on command and being decent on a leash. Rex isn't totally sure he wants to get along with the other dogs and has a dominant personality. He has found middle ground with the other dominant males to coexist in what can only be described as a canine fraternity - seriously they are a hoot! . Rex is now heartworm negative however it is vital that his adopters ensure his continued heartworm preventative to ensure he never has to deal with heartworm again. Rex is searching for an active home that will give him the boundaries he needs to succeed.
