About Rooster

  • Status: Adopted!
  • Species: Dog
  • General Color: Black
Rooster is a beautiful young German Shepherd estimated around 10 months of age. This big guy was a stray in the Louisville Metro area which leaves us with no knowledge of his history prior to arriving at the shelter. Rooster has a very puppy-like personality right now. He is friendly with new people and VERY excited to meet them. He has clearly not had any training though as he is very inappropriate when meeting new people - or just when he is excited. He wants to jump and mouth but he does not show any aggression at all. Rooster hasn't had any fundamental issues meeting new people or being handled by various people if you can make it past his glaring lack of manners. While Rooster doesn't have any issues with children given his current lack of manners he probably wouldn't be suited for a home with young kids right now. Rooster is trying really hard to figure out the other dogs. Luckily he has some very forgiving and playful companions to help him out. Again no aggression just told lack of manners. Rooster is very mouthy in all things - not biting and barely considered a nip but mouthy nonetheless - and this is translating over into a very rough and tumble play style. He is obviously all puppy in this category with a total lack of social manners. He is learning quickly though and is a hoot to watch in the meantime. Rooster is simply a young rambunctious dog that has been given zero training or guidance. He is going to take a dedicated owner willing to invest time and patience into curbing his bad habits - jumping and being mouthy - while also helping him grow in more positive ways. Rooster is young enough that a basic obedience course should help correct his behavior very easily but without consistency he could also become a poster child for what can go wrong in such a high energy and high drive dog.
