About Echo

  • Status: Adopted!
  • Species: Dog
  • General Color: Black
Echo is a beautiful shepherd mix who was found as a stray dragging a chain, extremely skinny, and partially blind. We know absolutely nothing about his past life except that is couldn't have been too happy. We estimate that Echo is around 3 years of age but we have no way of knowing for sure. Echo is partially blind and as a result he holds his head at an odd angle. He has been checked by the vet a couple times to ensure that there is nothing else going on with him medically causing either the blindness or the head tilt - he has been given a clean bill of health on both fronts. The current theory though is that Echo has been partially blind for long enough to not only get used to holding his head a certain way but also allow the muscles to strengthen and prevent him from lifting his head upward. As a result Echo does show pain if asked to lift his head upward - thinking holding up to check teeth - and Echo does respond with a fear bite when in pain. Echo truly loves people. He loves getting brushed and will rub around your legs like a cat. That being said Echo needs lots of patience and guidance adjusting to a new home. He doesn't take treats well because he just smells to food, he needs guided on steps and down hallways at first, and he may bark at the wall just because but we promise he means the best. Echo has adjusted to a routine consisting of multiple people, a child, and other dogs. Echo does great once adjusted however if you add a new dog to the mix or the current ones get too rowdy Echo doesn't respond well. Since he cannot see the dogs coming they often scare him and he responds aggressively. He isn't inherently dog aggressive because he does great with other dogs who respect his boundaries but he also needs lots of guidance to adjust to a new dog and would likely do best in a home without other dogs or only one other dog who is low energy. Echo has also been introduced to a cat and he responded playfully but couldn't find her again so he just went to the closest human. We think he would easily adjust to life with a cat with a little guidance. Echo is a wonderful boy and very special. He has energy and likes playing but really needs a home that is low key and stays on a schedule. His world has been rocked a few times already and he is searching for a loving place to call home.
