Max is a beautiful young shepherd estimated around 2 years of age. Max was surrendered to the shelter by an unreputable breeder after they were unable to sell Max. Unfortunately they were not forthcoming with details on his life prior to their surrender of him so we do not know what his life has been like although we can make a few guesses.
Max seems to be a very sweet boy and he quickly became a 'mammas boy'. Max doesn't seem to have been socialized much and can be timid around new people and get jumpy. Loud noises (like a slammed door or raised voice) will make Max cower in fear but he does recover quickly with some sweet talking. Max doesn't seem to have any formal training and although he loosely understands the concept of the leash he doesn't have great manners. He is going to need patient and gentle training to help shape his manners without causing him any more fear than he already possesses.
Max is around other dogs and is doing progressively better. When first introduced he was terrified and immediately defensive with the other dogs. If a dog gets too close or tries to initiate play Max still panics a little - at the time of writing this he is only 5 days into his foster home. We expect that Max will start to learn social skills and become a playful boy soon but he is certainly going to require continued guidance, socialization, and boundaries in this area.
Max is a very sweet boy who has been dealt a rough hand in life thus far. He is searching for a loving home that will have the patience to teach him what it means to be a member of the family and who will give him the love he deserves.
