About Doc

  • Status: Adopted!
  • Species: Dog
  • General Color: Sable
Doc is an adorable male approximately 3 years of age who is unfortunately no stranger to new homes. According to the owner who surrendered Doc to us he has had 3 homes prior to arriving in our care. Doc was never properly socialized and had a lot of catching up to do when he came to us. Doc continues to improve every day but is searching for a home who understands that he is a diamond in the rough and will need patience and training. Doc is an extremely affectionate boy with everyone he knows and tends towards lap dog behavior. Unfortunately when meeting new people Doc is very insecure. Sometimes he will bark like he is big and bad while other times he will cower. He is simply so unsure of new people. Doc has not shown any signs of aggression and although his bark can be scary it seems to be a display of false bravado. When he is settled into his environment he doesn't have an issue meeting new people but when he is in that transition period and feeling extremely insecure he has shown his insecurity by barking. Doc is the type of shepherd that is 100% invested in his person and will amplify anything his person does including being nervous. Unfortunately his lack of proper socialization has left him with a lack of confidence and Doc needs an owner who will help him learn to stand on his own. Doc does great with other dogs although he hasn't been around small dogs. As he has come out of his shell Doc plays with the other dogs more and more. He seems to take social cues from other dogs well and could benefit from having a dog to 'show him the ropes' in a new home. He has been introduced to adult cats and true to his current nervous nature he was timid approaching them and quick to avoid them. This could change as he gains confidence but will really depend on his future training. Overall Doc is a great boy who is a cuddle bug and very playful once he is settled down. He will make a great companion for someone who has a good understanding and experience with German Shepherds as well as the patience to guide him through his mistrust. Doc is anxiously awaiting his fur-ever home. If you have any questions, or would like an adoption application, please email us at Tierhavenrescue@gmail.com
