About Austin

  • Status: Adopted!
  • Species: Dog
  • General Color: Black with Tan, Yellow or Fawn

Austin is a handsome young guy estimated around 1 year of age and believed to be a German Shepherd Husky mix. Austin was found as a stray with a cast on his left front leg and quite the story to tell.

Austin is an outgoing and social guy who is happy to make friends with most everyone he has met. He has been a volunteer favorite and a gentleman for the vet during every visit. Austin has a large personality and is always looking for new ways to stir up mischief - everything from morphing out of his crate to leading a chorus of howls during breakfast is fair game in his playbook. Austin has lots of love to go along with his adventurous soul and is always happy to join the nearest human in their adventure. Austin can be energetic but also appreciates his down time - when else are you supposed to write songs after all? Austin does great in the car and loves going to rides and visiting new places. He is also good during grooming and is overall just a good boy. Austin has been around children 7 years of age and up with no concerns but has not been around younger children.

Austin lives with other Shepherds and Shepherd mixes in his foster home and does a pretty good job. The other dogs have to demonstrate lots of patience as Austin is a bit of an unruly boy during play groups. He tends to want to bark at the other dogs while they play and hasn't actually figured out how to play himself. Austin does do great meeting new dogs while out and about though and is very respectful of other dogs while he is on leash. Austin has not met any dogs under 35 lbs or cats at this time.

Austin did share some of his story with us through the state he was in when he arrived at the shelter. Austins leg had been casted presumably for the fracture found on the Xrays however in addition to that Austin also had a bullet in his leg. Thanks to crate rest and the miracle of the body Austin has been able to heal without needing an amputation and although he has a wonky gait he is an active and healthy boy overall. The vet advised against removing the bullet as it doesn't impact him and surgery has more risks than benefits at this time.

Austin is searching a fun, adventure loving home that can keep him safe and give him the love and guidance he needs. If you're the home for Austin please email Tierhavenrescue@gmail.com for an adoption application or visit Tierhaven.rescuegroups.org for FAQs
