Persephone is a stunning young Shepherd estimated around a year and a half of age. Persephone found herself in the shelter after being left at an individuals house for boarding and her owner never returned. Unfortunately, her owners were never located and it remains a mystery. Persephone is looking forward to finding a new home to call her own. 

Persephone is a wicked smart, loyal, and protective girl. She is timid around new people and draws a tight circle around her 'herd' but once she accepts a new person it is for life and she is immensely loyal. Persephone is looking for an emotional support human that can loan her the courage to navigate new situations and help her learn how to better make new human friends. With her foster family Persephone has been an awesome girl who shows a lot of potential for anything she might set her mind to. She is very affectionate and loves to share the couch or cuddle in bed. However, Persephone is very protective and doesn't know who/what to protect from. If she is in a room with one family member and another walks in Persephone will growl until she is told the person entering is okay to be there. This is a behavior that is worked with daily and she is making great progress on but she will require an experienced handler to provide her compassionate guidance as she figures these things out. Persephone enjoys going for hikes, playing tug, and learning new tricks. She bonds closely with people and is a very eager to please girl. She would make an awesome jogging companion and is an active, athletic dog. Persephone is NOT suitable for a home with children under 13 years of age at this time. 

Persephone does great with other dogs and is a playful, fun girl with her foster siblings. Persephone has a good understanding of social dynamics and does a good job navigating play groups with a variety of different dogs. Persephone has been around dogs as small as 30 lbs with no concerns and does currently live with a cat. Given proper introductions and boundaries she should be able to adjust to other cats. We do not know how she will do with small dogs as she has never interacted with them. 

Persephone is searching for a loving and patient home that understands the protective and loyal nature of a German Shepherd and can help guide her in expanding her experience.
