Sadie is a beautiful female Dutch Shepherd around 9 years young. Sadie was confiscated by animal control after being found in a hot vehicle over the summer where she was kept in a dirty crate and was severely overweight. Sadie has clearly had a rough few years but she is looking forward to having a home of her own. 

Sadie is a very sweet girl who is friendly with new people although not always super social. She can be aloof at first but once she realizes that someone is offering her attention she tends to melt into them. Sadie has been wonderful for all of the extra attention she needed when she arrived - tolerating medication, extra bathing, and pampering. She is a no-fuss sort of girl though and thinks that it is a bit much. She is happy to just be near you doing her own thing while you do hers. She is starting to warm up to the idea of asking for attention but isn't super affectionate. She has a few tendencies that speak to her past of being confined such as circling when overwhelmed or darting to corners when she isn't sure where she is supposed to go. Sadie has met an 8 year old and done well but we would not currently recommend her for a home with younger children. 

Sadie is able to get along with other dogs in her foster home but is not a dog oriented girl herself. She will reprimand dogs that get in her space and don't respect her boundaries. She much prefers to keep herself away from the other dogs but is able to navigate shared space with the other dogs. Sadie would do best as an only dog or in a home with other respectful, senior dogs. Sadie has not met any smaller dogs or cats at this time. 

Sadie is heartworm positive and has begun 'slow kill' treatment for her heartworm which will need to continue in the form of monthly Ivermectin in her adoptive home. We would be happy to answer any questions you have about treating heartworm and also encourage contacting your vet to discuss adopting a heartworm positive dog.
