About Dopple

  • Status: Adopted!
  • Species: Dog
  • General Color: Black with Tan, Yellow or Fawn

Dopple is a dapper young German Shepherd estimated around 1.5 - 2 years of age. Dopple arrived at the shelter as a stray and we do not know his history or background; however, he is happily looking forward to having a home to call his own.

Dopple has been an absolute sweetheart with everyone in his foster home and all of the volunteers he has met. He has a kind personality and is happy to make new friends or get attention from current friends. Dopple is not a couch potato but isn't over the top in his energy level either making him a bit of a unicorn for a young Shepherd. Dopple enjoys playing in the yard, shadowing people around the house, and chewing on a bone in his crate. Dopple has had very limited interactions with children in his time with us but has done well with the one 7 year old he did meet. There has been no indication in his behavior that says he wouldn't do well with children 4 years and up however he simply hasn't had a chance to meet any.

Dopple is fostered with other Shepherds and Shepherd mixes and has done a great job navigating play groups. Dopple is not huge on romping but is figuring out how to play with other dogs. Dopple can be loud when he sees other dogs in public and is learning how to better behave socially when he can't meet every dog he encounters. This is an ongoing process and will require an adopter that can work with him to settle down while out and about. Although Dopple wants to be social with new dogs he is ultimately a people-first sort of boys and prefers sticking near the humans in most situations. He can also be a bit of an attention hog and will push between people and other dogs that are getting petted. This is tolerated by most dogs but is a behavior we discourage nonetheless. Dopple is not considered cat friendly and has not been around small dogs.

Dopple is heartworm positive and has begun 'slow kill' treatment for this which will need to continue in his new home. We would be happy to discuss this with you if you'd like to email and we encourage contacting your vet clinic to discuss treatment of heartworm.

Dopple is a kind young guy who is searching for a home that will give him the care, love, and guidance that he deserves. If you're the home for Dopple please email Tierhavenrescue@gmail.com for an adoption application or visit Tierhaven.rescuegroups.org for FAQs
