JimBob is a beautiful German Shepherd estimated around 2 years of age. JimBob arrived at the shelter as a stray with injuries a year ago and has recently been cleared for adoption. Although we don't know about the circumstances that brought JimBob to the shelter we know that he is happy to be looking for his forever home now and has been a wonderful guest in his time with us.
JimBob is a social, sweet, and kind guy who loves getting to be part of whatever is going on and is particularly fond of being glued to your legs. He is the sort of guy who is always ready for a party or the next adventure - even if it is just a trip to the vet. He is always a charmer for the vet staff on his visits and doesn't let anything get him down. He is truly a happy-go-lucky boy with a love for life. JimBob is an active boy and you'd never guess he had previous injuries based on his love for climbing over things and pulling on the leash. He loves to romp in the yard, enjoys hikes, and is determined to figure out ponds/creeks/water. JimBob does love bath time though and is happy to be pampered during grooming times. Jim has been around children 7 - 9 years of age and simply adores them. He would likely do well in a home with children although he has not met any younger children at this time.
JimBob is around other Shepherds and Shepherd mixes in his foster home and does great. He enjoys romping with the other playful dogs but also respects the boundaries of the older dogs that don't want to be part of those antics. JimBob does a great job navigating social dynamics with other dogs and has generally done well meeting new dogs. JimBob has been tested with cats however after one hiss for approaching JimBob decided they were terrifying and absolutely refused to reenter the space. We would recommend another cat test before placing him in a home with cats however this definitely points to him being respectful of cats.
When JimBob arrived at the shelter he was not placing weight on his back right leg and had a laceration. It was believed he had possibly been hit by a car however there is no way of truly knowing. X-rays showed that Jim did not have any fractures or breaks however it was found that he had a severe ACL injury. He was not eligible for surgery due to his size and energy level and was instead placed on crate rest with supplements and massages to support healing. He has been able to recover and upon his most recent exam the new vet techs couldn't believe he had such a former injury. It is recommended that he stay on joint supplements and not be allowed to be overweight but he is overwise a normally active, healthy young guy.
JimBob is searching for a family to call his own that will value his goofy nature and heart of gold. If you're the home for JimBob please email Tierhavenrescue@gmail.com for an adoption application or visit Tierhaven.rescuegroups.org for FAQs
