Pistachio is a beautiful female German Shepherd estimated around a year of age. Pistachio was a stray therefore we do not know her history or background.
Pistachio is a sweet girl with those she knows but is very timid and unsure of new people. She can be vocal and skittish initially when meeting especially in new places. Pistachio does well going through pet stores and parks but during focused meetings she does not handle the attention well. If she is ignored and allowed to check someone out from afar first she does better but if she is rushed or has all the attention on her Pistachio will bark and be defensive. Once Pistachio gets to know someone she is an affectionate, goofy, and wicked smart girl. She loves to play, get belly rubs, and cuddle on the couch. She is going to require a lot of patience though as even with those she knows she occasionally is sure they are aliens trying to kidnap her. Please research the 'fear period' of German Shepherd behavioral development and understand that in addition to being in the midst of that stage Pistachio also has the added stress of transitions being in rescue. Pistachio loves toys - Kong's, jolly balls, and in a pinch her leash - and is figuring out the premise of fetch. Pistachio has limited experience with children 8+ years of age and given her hesitation towards new people she is not currently recommended for a home with children.
Pistachio lives with other dogs in her foster home and does a generally good job. She is unsure of new dogs and tends to be more avoidant initially. She is slowly figuring out how to play and can be a bit rough at first but is also learning how to respect the boundaries other dogs set for her. She currently lives with an adult cat and does a good job respecting her space. She has not been around any young/active cats but as of now we have no reason to think she would do poorly adjusting to a new home with cats.
Pistachio is a young girl who is looking for guidance and patience as she figures out her role in a family. She is going to require structured socialization, patience, and lots of love to help her discover the world doesn't have to be scary.
