Mama River is an adult female German Shepherd estimated around 3 years of age. Mama River was found in a rural area last fall with her puppies which we are told she did a great job raising at the shelter. We do not know her history prior to arriving at the shelter with her pups but we know that she was a staff favorite in her time at the shelter. 

Mama River was very unsure of people when she arrived at the shelter and is still learning to trust. She is a typical Shepherd who draws a tight circle around her 'people' and asks for space with new people. She is the sort of girl who prefers you ignore her until she has had a chance to check things out and decide to engage. She is not the type of dog that will tolerate being rushed in any way. She is true to her breed in her protective nature and with those she knows Mama River is the kindest, cuddle-bug, sort of girl. Mama River has not been around children at this time. 

Mama River is fostered with other Shepherds but is not very playful. She is well-mannered with the other dogs but prefers to take a bone or toy and hide away with it during play groups. She has played with some of the more persistent young dogs but ultimately she is more people-centric than dog. Mama River has NOT been around small dogs or cats at this time. 

Mama River is searching for a home that understands and values the protective nature of Shepherds and will take the time to earn her trust and help her learn how to better navigate the world as a whole.
