About Amos

  • Status: Available for Adoption (adoption info)
  • Species: Dog
  • General Color: Black with Tan, Yellow or Fawn
  • Current Age: 3 Years 7 Months (best estimate)

Amos is a handsome male German Shepherd estimated around 3 years of age. Amos was a stray at the shelter after being hit by a car so we unfortunately do not know his history or background. The state of his ears and lack of house savvy leads us to believe he may have been a backyard dog for quite a while though.

Amos is an absolute sweetheart with no concept of personal space. The only people he isn't overly thrilled to be around is the vet team but he is still very kind to them while they poke and prod. Amos loves to play and will do anything he can for attention with his favorite being to jump directly in front of people while they are walking. Amos enjoys scratches and cuddles of all kinds and is always accepting of a good massage. Amos currently lives with a 10 year old child and is just as grateful for their affection as he is an adults. He has not been around younger children at this time.

Amos is a wild child in the play yard but is good with other dogs. He loves to romp, roll, and run which isn't the preferred style of every dog. He has done a good job learning to respect the boundaries of the dogs that don't want to play with him and stick with the ones that do. Amos has been around dogs 25 lbs and up with no concerns. He is NOT cat friendly.

Amos does have a hitch in his gait from his previously fractured pelvis. He doesn't let this slow him down in the slightest but it is noticeable when he runs. He has been cleared medically and seems to be healing as well as one can in his situation. He is at risk of arthritis and would benefit from joint supplements as he ages.

Amos is looking for a loving, fun home that will appreciate his goofy, playful personality. If you're the home for Amos please email us at for an adoption application or visit for FAQs
