Dixie is a stunning young girl believed to be a Belgian Malinois German Shepherd mix around 2 years old. Dixie's owners passed away leading to her going to the shelter; unfortunately, we do not know anything else about her background other than that.      Dixie is an extremely loyal, loving, and dedicated dog. She loves her people with everything she has and draws a very tight circle around 'her people'. Dixie can be slow to trust new people and does not always know how to expand that circle to include new friends. She has been working hard in her time with us and has a pretty good routine for meeting new people successfully. She is the sort that needs to be ignored for a moment and maybe slipped a few treats while she assesses the situation. She is easily won over when she isn't pressured or rushed. Dixie is looking for a patient, steady person who will help her continue to learn how to trust. Dixie is an energetic, playful young girl and has plenty of energy to spare. She loves to go on hikes or help in the yard. Dixie is big on cuddling and likes to stay as close as humanly possible to the humans while hanging out. Dixie would be a great sport dog once she has caught up her socialization as she is an eager to please and athletic girl who would thrive with advanced training. Dixie is not currently recommended for a home with children due to her reactive behavior during introductions.      Dixie is a playgroup superstar and loves to romp with her foster siblings. However she is extremely polite meeting new dogs and does not like to be rushed by new dogs. She will not play on leash and prefers to not interact with other dogs while out walking or on leash - her focus is solely on the human holding the leash. She does great meeting new dogs in her foster home though and is the sort that can acclimate to a variety of playgroups. Dixie has had limited interactions with small dogs but has done okay. She is NOT cat friendly.      Dixie is looking for a family that understands the Malinois breed and is able to give her the love and kind guidance that she needs to learn when to protect and when to accept new friends.
