Merv is a handsome young male German Shepherd estimated around 1 year old. Merv was a stray so we do not know his history or background prior to arrival at the shelter.
Merv is an energetic, active young boy who is a bit of a wild child. He has done great meeting new people and being handled by various volunteers. He can be a bit head shy and doesn't always like having his collar handled but overall has been a sweet boy. He doesn't seem to have had much guidance and is still trying to figure out why he has to listen to the humans and why they don't want to run everywhere. He definitely has energy to burn and would love to be a hiking or running companion. Merv has not been around children at this time.
Merv has been able to acclimate to some of the dogs in his foster home but is overall struggling with reactivity towards other dogs. He is very barrier reactive in his crate and on leash with other dogs and is going to need continued training to help him learn how to safely make new friends. He made friends with the first dog he met in foster, Max II, and continues to be friendly with him but acts like he doesn't know how to expand his social circle. At this time Merv would do best as a single dog with a home that can help him acclimate to other dogs in a structured way. Merv is NOT friendly towards cats or small dogs.
Merv is a beautiful, sweet young guy who is looking for some much needed guidance and love to help him thrive as a good canine citizen. If you're the home for Merv please email us at Tierhavenrescue@gmail.com or visit Tierhaven.rescuegroups.org for FAQs
