Baby Ruthie is a stunning young girl around a year of age (estimated DOB 9/2018) whose mother is a German Shepherd and father unknown. Baby Ruthie was born in a rural part of Kentucky to a pack of feral dogs which is where she spent the first part of her life. Baby Ruthie was befriended by a shelter volunteer and eventually trapped. Despite her early days roaming Baby Ruthie is doing her best to overcome her fear and warm up to new people.

Baby Ruthie takes a couple of minutes to warm up to new people and prefers to check them out from an arms length away. Some treats offered from her level or a short walk helps her get comfortable more quickly and she will gladly crawl into your lap once a friendship has been started. Once Baby Ruthie has deemed someone 'in' she is happy to demand all the snuggles, belly rubs, and attention she can get from them. She is a very affectionate girl and loves to romp with the people or just hang out on the couch. Baby Ruthie has moderate leash manners and is a solid 'okay' on the leash. She loves going on hikes though and is currently fostered on a small farm where she can go on hikes through some woods with a creek which she greatly enjoys. She has a wonderful recall and is always the first to check in for a treat. She is an intelligent and athletic girl who is quick to problem solve situations like the toys being placed on a high surface and tackle the dilemma with ease - in this case jumping up to the toy bin and dumping it for the other dogs. She is always ready for an adventure or a problem to solve and is happy to keep you on your toes. She responds quickly to guidance and is a gentle girl when it comes to training. Baby Ruthie has spent time with children 7 years of age and up with no issues; however we would recommend her for a home with children old enough to respect her boundaries as she is settling in who will also be comfortable with her rambunctious nature once she gets settled.

Baby Ruthie has always been with other dogs and loves to run and romp in the yard. She is a fan of chase games but also likes to roughhouse and chew on the other dogs. She knows that she can't play chase games inside so she has learned the art of close quarters romping to keep the fun going. She has not been around small dogs but does live with a cat that she has learned to respect. She will attempt to get the cat to play with her on occasion but quickly leaves her alone once the attempt fails.

Baby Ruthie is searching for a home that has the time and patience to earn her trust and help her gain confidence in exploring the world as well as meet her exercise needs as an active young dog. She takes about a week to settle into a new environment and start to let her playful personality shine through but given the time to settle in will be an amazing companion.

If you're the home for her please email Tierhavenrescue@gmail.com for an adoption application or visit tierhaven.rescuegroups.org to learn more about our adoption process and fee.
