About Abigail

  • Status: Adopted!
  • Species: Dog
Abigail is a wicked smart young female Belgian Malinois mix estimated around 5 months of age (Possible DOB 12/23/2018). Abigail's litter was found, along with their mother, during a polar vortex in January in an abandoned house. Momu, her mother, is a Malinois however we have no way of knowing the breed of the father. Abigail will require a home with breed familiarity. Abigail is sweet, smart, and mischievous all true to her breed. She enjoys being in the middle of everything and seeing how many not-chew-toys she can get her teeth on at any given time. Abigail is a quick learner with a stubborn side - just because she knows what you're asking doesn't mean she is always going to do it. She loves to cuddle but rarely holds still for long and cuddle session often devolve into romping. Abigail isn't accustomed to many different people and does wonderful meeting new people. She has been around a 7 year old child who is very dog savvy and true to a Malinois pup Abigail enjoys chasing her around. They are closely supervised as like most Mals Abigail is a very mouthy girl and will nip at legs while playing. We would not recommend her for a home with children under 6 years of age or children that are not accustomed to dogs. Abigail has grown up around her litter mates and multiple other adult dogs. She does a wonderful job navigating the other dogs and persisting in convincing them to play with her. Abigail was the runt of her litter so she has been accidentally rolled in play with the larger dogs making her more hesitant meeting new large dogs. Once she realizes they aren't going to hurt her she picks right up wanting to chase and play. Abigail has grown up with a cat and still refuses to see the cat as anything other than a chew toy resulting in close supervision. While it wouldn't be impossible for her to live with a cat there would need to be a solid plan in place to ensure the safety of the cat while Abigail continues to learn boundaries. Abigail is a typical young Mal and is going to require a home that is well-versed in the needs of Belgian Malinois. While she isn't an extremely high drive girl she is going to need plenty of training, exercise, and mental stimulation to keep her occupied and on track to her best behaviors. She will likely need advanced training or involvement in dog sports in the future to keep up with her energy level. Abigail is going to make an amazing companion to a home that is dedicated to her needs and staying on their toes. If you're that home email us at Tierhavenrescue@gmail.com for an adoption application. All FAQ's are addressed at our website adoptapet.com/tierhaven along with information on our adoption process.
