Mia is a stunning female shepherd estimated between 2 and 3 years of age. Mia was stray in the Daviess County area therefore we have no information about her past prior to arriving in our care.
Mia has been a friendly girl from the first day. She didn't show any fear when transported to our organization or introduced to her foster family and various volunteers. She has quickly leveled out into a loving and sweet girl with an edge of excitableness. Mia has been around a 4 year old child and didn't have any issues. Mia can be a total hot mess on her meet and greets. While at home she is a stabilized high energy once she gets on a meeting with new people she falls apart. She meets with very high energy and an aloof personality. She typically spends the whole meeting zipping back and forth without stopping to actually meet the new people however very few people have taken the time to wait her out. Once her emotional rollercoaster is over Mia reveals a sweet and loving personality. She is completely dedicated to her people and simply wants to be wherever they are doing whatever they want her to do.
Mia has done extremely well with the other dogs in her foster home. She quickly established herself as a middle-line personality being not very dominate but not submissive either. Mia has learned how to navigate her foster group well to play with certain dogs and avoid others. Mia does not back down though and does clash with more dominate personalities. Mia also totally wrecks meeting new dogs outside of her foster home. She comes on very strong in a way that makes you question if she is friendly or not. Once she levels out she can be friendly but the 2-3 times we have had her out to meet new dogs she has behaved like a heathen which is completely opposite of her normal personality.
Mia did test heartworm positive July 5, 2016 and has been started on Ivermectin treatments and holistic support. Mia will need a home dedicated to continuing her treatment for heartworm and future prevention. Mia does not show any physical signs of heartworm and was a very light positive therefore we hope to clear her quickly.
Mia is best summed up as a wild child on an emotional rollercoaster. She doesn't know who to attach herself to or how to behave given all the transition in her life. She is searching for someone to overlook her downright terrible behavior for the first 25 minutes of meeting her to see the loyal and dedicate shepherd underneath.
