Rebel is a stunning male shepherd approximately 14 months of age. Rebel has bounced around most of his life and has known three homes and two different foster situations. Unfortunately through his bouncing Rebel was never provided proper training and boundaries. He is a very friendly and social boy however he has been allowed to become overly protective of his home and yard in two situations which led to him being returned to Tier Haven. Rebel is a very sweet, goofy, and playful boy. He has grown up around children and adores them. When Rebel is with a handler who sets firm boundaries for him he can be a perfectly behaved boy. He has been through pet stores and to parks with no issues. We do know however that when Rebel is with a handler who is timid or nervous he tries to protect them but doesn't know who or what he is protecting from - unfortunately it is him that is causing the nervous behavior. This has led to Rebel being reactive in these situations and barking at people. His foster has worked with him to eliminate this behavior and has been very successful. Rebel will need an adopter who understands the desire of a German Shepherd to protect and can set firm boundaries with Rebel around his behavior. Rebel has been around other dogs most of his life and is wonderful! He loves to romp and run with the other dogs. He is a big boy though and can get pretty rough when playing. He does best with another medium/large dog who can keep up with his antics. He could easily drive an older dog crazy wanting to play or accidently injury a smaller dog with his paws. Currently, Rebel has not been tested with cats however he can be tested upon request. Overall, Rebel is an amazing dog. He is used to being an inside family dog and he is loyal to a fault. Rebel is already a very well behaved dog but he does require an experienced owner who can maintain firm boundaries. His behavior is normal for a german shepherd - especially one who has been bounced around so much - and easily corrected through training.
