Hansel is a stunning male German Shepherd around 2.5 - 3 years of age. Hansel came to us after landing in the shelter due to a bite that occurred outside the apartment he lived in. We unfortunately know little about the circumstances around the bite or his life prior to the shelter. We do know that Hansel has been a wonderful gentlemen in his foster homes and is a volunteer favorite.

Hansel is an easy-going cuddle bug in his foster home. He is never too far away from the people and takes his role as supervisor seriously. He is a goofy boy and loves to romp and play in the yard with people or other dogs. Hansel is still very nervous meeting new people and can be rather avoidant around new people. He does well meeting newcomers in his foster homes where he is confident and comfortable but still struggles with expanding his confidence to new areas.  He requires patience, lots of treats, and a slow approach when meeting for the first time. Once you are part of Hansel's circle he is loyal for life and will happily greet you with kisses. Hansel currently lives with an 11 y/o child that he believes hung the moon and although he's not been around toddlers he has always done well with kids.

Hansel adores other dogs and takes a lot of his cues from the dogs in his foster home. This includes their very rough and tumble play style which he happily adopted himself. He does respect boundaries and will back off when another dog asks for space but he is otherwise still an energetic, pushy puppy. Hansel has not been around dogs smaller than 35 lbs at this time and is NOT cat friendly.

Hansel is a beautiful boy who is looking for a home that can provide the structure, patience, and love he needs to learn how to his confident, goofy self. If you're the home for Hansel please email tierhavenrescue@gmail.com for an adoption application or visit Tierhaven.rescuegroups.org for FAQs
