Hickory is a handsome young male German Shepherd who is estimated around 9 months of age. Hickory is a tri-pod - his back leg had to be amputated after he arrived at the shelter as a stray with an old, poorly healed injury that caused him to be unable to use his leg. 

Hickory is an extremely sweet boy who is trying to figure out his place in the world. He has a big heart and is a loyal, loving boy that wants connection with people but doesn't always know how to trust new people. Hickory can be a bit cautious meeting new people but once he warms up is a big cuddle bug. Hickory is a typical pup with those he knows - rambunctious, bouncy, and prone to mischief. Hickory didn't seem to be accustomed to being indoors when he arrived and is still learning his house manners including crate training. Hickory has had limited interactions with kids and they currently make him uncomfortable. He would prefer a home with older children (13+) at this time although we have faith that has he continues to get comfortable with people he will be more settled around younger kids. Hickory is going to need some extra guidance to overcome his unease and obvious lack of socialization but he is an eager to please boy and always tries his best. 

Hickory does great with other dogs and loves to romp during playgroups. He navigates playgroups well and is generally respectful meeting new dogs. He borrows a lot of confidence from the other dogs and would do great in a home with other dogs. Hickory has been around puppies but not small breed dogs or cats.
